Villagers from Mazvihwa area in Zvishavane are having sleepless nights over a mysterious fire that is tormenting a local family.
Gogo Jina Moyo of Machina village under Chief Mazvihwa and her three grandchildren have resorted to sleeping in the open, having lost household property to a mysterious fire, whose source is unknown.
Each time they decide to sleep in their hut, a mysterious fire comes out of nowhere and surprisingly razes all household goods except the wardrobe.
ZBC News caught up with Gogo Moyo who was still in a state of confusion after another early morning fire raze which saw a bucket with kitchen utensils burning.
She explained: “It is unexplainable. We are witnessing a fire whose origin we know nothing about. The children’s things are catching fire randomly; if we place a bucket of water here we find dirt in it.
“I used to stay with my child, then I went to my home area and that is when I heard that that property had been burnt. We are looking for help because we do not know where this is coming from.”
Chief Mazvihwa has since advised the family to seek traditional solutions.
“What is happening here is mysterious. As their traditional leader I have advised them to consult for help. The fire just erupts from nowhere, trees just start burning on their own…” he said.
So serious is the situation that even neighbouring villagers are now living in fear of the unknown.
