POLICE in Rusape are set to exhume the remains of a nine-year-old boy who was allegedly beaten to death by his father in September after refusing to take a bath.
The Manica Post understands that the boy was buried without a police report.
Some village heads who were allegedly aware of the circumstances surrounding the death of the juvenile attended the burial as they are members of the same church with the accused person.
The father, Daniel Sarapo (38) of Toto Village under Chief Chiduku has since been arraigned before the courts.
Sarapo is facing murder charges.
He appeared before Rusape magistrate, Ms Rutendo Machingura, and was not asked to plead.
Ms Machingura advised him to apply for bail at the High Court.
Appearing for the State, Mr Benoni Makuvire said Sarapo fatally assaulted his son Divine Sarapo with a plank on his back and head.
The boy died on the spot.
“On September 22 at around 10am, the accused person assaulted the now deceased on the back with a plank. He also hit the boy with open hands on the head after he had refused to take a bath.
“Diana Sarapo witnessed this and the plank which was used to assault Divine was recovered,” said Mr Makuvire.
Ms Machingura adjourned the matter to December 8 for routine remand.
