Thieves pounce on man & his girlfriend near graveyard, get away with their car, cash & cellphones

POLICE are investigating a case of robbery where a man and his girlfriend were robbed of their belongings near Warren Hills Cemetery.

Harare Police Spokesperson Inspector Simon Chazovachii on Wednesday said Daniel Mutedzi aged 35 was with his girlfriend driving a Toyota Wish when his motor vehicle developed a mechanical fault along Bulawayo Road near Warren Hills turn off on February 2 at about 7:30pm when the incident happened.

“They locked all doors and closed all the windows and stayed inside the car.

“Three unknown male adults approached the car and one of them threw a brick which broke the driver’s window,” he said.

Insp Chazovachii said the accused people then forcibly took out Daniel and his girlfriend from the car and searched them.

“The accused persons assaulted the two with fists all over their bodies and one of them produced a knife and threatened to kill the two.

“The accused persons demanded car keys and cash and were given US$100, Samsung S20 Ultra, Itel cellphone and car keys,” he added.

He said the accused persons tore the boyfriend’s pair of trousers and tied his hands and drove away from the scene towards Kuwadzana.

“The girlfriend managed to untie the boyfriend and the two proceeded to ZRP Warren Park to make a report.

“We urge the public to adhere to the Covid-19 lockdown regulations.

“People should respect curfew times, properly mask up, maintaining social distance, sanitize regularly and only travel when it is necessary,” Insp Chazovachii said.

He said police would continue making a heavy presence to enforce the lockdown regulations.
