A Mbare man recently hung himself due to economic hardships, with no source of income having been sidelined from work due to Covid-19 restrictions.
At the age of 56, Lawrence Mukungula, who died a few days ago was never married and never had children.
It is alleged that Mukungula hanged himself after several complaints to close neighbours and family members on how the economy was letting him down.
“I spoke to him not so long ago last week and he was complaining about the economy saying ‘zvinhu hazvina kundimirira mushe,” said one of the neighbours who preferred anonymity.
Mukungula worked for a local packaging company and is one of the workers who were stopped from going to work from April 2020.
It is reported since then he has depended on his sisters whom he stayed with at the same house in Mbare.
Very few of the young people in his community knew him as he was always indoors.
“Aingoswera akazvivharira mumba,” said Shadreck Farikai one of the close neighbours.
Another close neighbour said: “Growing up I never knew him but he was always there.
“It is only recently that I started seeing him at his house only to find out he was born and raised there.”
Although the Covid-19 restrictions were relaxed earlier this month, Mukungula was still not going to work and he did not have any source of income.
