A HARARE man, who was arrested sometime last year for se_xually abusing a corpse at a funeral in Epworth, awaits ruling today after the completion of his trial.
The suspect, Big Sipiliano of Jacha in Epworth, is facing charges of violating the corpse as well as indecent assault.
Two witnesses testified in court that Sipiliano committed the offence.
Allegations were that on January 2, the witness was attending a funeral with other neighbours in a room where the body lay in state.
It is alleged that Sipiliano got inside the room and said: “Musikana uyu ndakabvira kare ndichimuda. Dai ndakatorara naye hangu achiri mupenyu, manje hazviperi zvakadaro.” (I have always loved this woman. I wish I had slept with her before her death, but this will not end well).
It is the State’s case that Sipiliano went on to uncover the body and said she was still looking beautiful.
He allegedly went on top of the corpse and started making se_xually suggestive moves with his clothes on.
The court heard that one of the people at the funeral wake tried to stop Sipiliano from performing the acts to no avail as he threatened to assault her.
After the act, Sipiliano went to the witness and grabbed her from behind.
A report was then made to the police, leading to Sipiliano’s arrest.
In his defence, Sipiliano told the court that he never committed the alleged offence. He further told the court that he did not se_xually m0lest the corpse, but only touched it.
The State was represented by Shambidzani Fungura and Vincent Chidembo.
