A one-year-and-nine months old toddler fell and drowned in a 30 metre-deep well at Ran Mine in Bindura while following her father who had left home.
Acting Mashonaland Central police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Naison Dhliwayo confirmed the incident which happened on April 14 at around 5pm.
Asst Insp Dhliwayo said Francis Dennis, father to the toddler Winnet left the minor in the custody of Takunda Dennis (15).
The minor decided to follow the father and fell into a 30-metre unprotected well.
After realising that the minor was missing Takunda started searching for her and he found her floating in the well.
The body was retrieved and a report was made to the police.
Asst Insp Dhliwayo appealed to people to protect all water bodies around homes.
“Children must always be under the care of mature people who are responsible,” he said.
