THE remains of a Darwendale police officer, Denias Dzemura Dhliwayo, who went missing three months ago, were found on Monday in a bush about two kilometres away from his workplace.
Dhliwayo, who was based at Darwendale Police Station in Zvimba, went missing in April this year under unclear circumstances and family members along with the police have been searching for him since then.
His skeletal remains were found on Monday by cattle herders in a bushy area about two kilometres from the police station.
"Although his body had decomposed beyond recognition, we managed to identify him through his clothes and his cell phone which were found at the scene," said Shepard Dzemura, an elder brother.
He added that Dhliwayo's skeletal remains will be buried in his rural home in Biriwiri area in Chimanimani either on Wednesday or Thursday.
The family said it was eagerly awaiting police investigations before concluding whether or not there was any foul play in their son's death.
When reached for comment, police spokesperson Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba said she was in a meeting.
At the time of writing this story, she had not responded to questions sent to her.
