In a dramatic incident a 30-year-old man assaulted his 18-year-old wife after he accused her of cheating on him.

The incident that lasted for 10 minutes happened in Lobengula West on Monday last week at around 5PM.

A source close to Mecky Makawa (30), said Makawa received a tip-off from his friend that his wife only identified as Mrs Makawa was involved in a se_xual liaison with a kombi driver.

The news was too hot to handle for Makawa as he got angry and confronted his wife and accused her of being a pr0stitute.

“He was seething with anger and confronted his wife while hurling insults at her for reportedly cheating on him while saying he does everything for her. He grabbed her before unleashing a heavy blow on her face causing her to bleed from the mouth,” said a friend to Makawa.

Makawa also kicked her all over the body.

“Onlookers had to rush to the scene to witness Makawa who was all over his wife as he also kicked her private parts saying they were the ones which caused her to cheat on him,” said an onlooker.

One of the onlookers had to intervene and stopped him from further assaulting his wife, who was already bleeding from the head and mouth, while she was trying to cover her nakedness after her husband tore her blouse during the scuffle, said a neighbour.

Makawa was arrested and his wife rushed to hospital. Efforts to get a comment from Makawa were fruitless.

Bulawayo deputy police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Nomalanga Msebele confirmed the incident: “I can confirm that we arrested a man who assaulted his wife with booted feet and fists for allegedly cheating on him.

“We would like to urge community members to engage third parties like pastors or professional marriage counsellors when they are faced with domestic misunderstandings than to resort to violence.”
