A SUSPECTED se_x worker plying her trade in Harare’s Avenues area allegedly teamed up with a taxi driver and another suspected robber and trailed a motorist from the city centre to his neighbourhood where they robbed him of a Jeep Wrangler vehicle and other belongings.
Eva Mudzamiri allegedly teamed up with Collen Kabvumbi, Edmore Round and trailed Nigel Kalumbu as he was driving home from Harare’s CBD to Glen Lorne.
The trio appeared in court yesterday charged with theft of a motor vehicle.
They were not asked to plead to the charges when they appeared before magistrate Mr Dennis Mangosi, who remanded them in custody to today for bail application.
Allegations against the trio are that on July 23 this year at around midnight, the three were driving a Toyota Wish and a Toyota Fun Cargo and hatched a plan to rob Kalumbu.
It is said that they trailed Kalumbu who was driving a Jeep Wrangler along Arcturus Road towards Chikurubi.
The court heard that Kalumbu later discovered that there was a car that was trailing him.
When he reached Kamfinsa Shopping Centre, he decided to seek help from his friend Desmond Makova who resides along Russell Road.
It is said when Kalumbu was arriving at his friend’s gate, a Toyota Wish blocked his way, forcing him to disembark from his car.
He then started running calling for help.
Mudzamiri and Round are alleged to have started assaulting Kalumbu, who fought back and managed to escape.
He rushed to Kabvumbi’s taxi not knowing that he was part of the gang.
The court heard that the trio then stole Kalumbu’s Jeep Wrangler and went and parked it along Livingstone Avenue near CMED car park.
On July 25, 2021, detectives from the Vehicle Theft Squad received information on the whereabouts of Kabvumbi who implicated others upon arrest.
The State alleges that the value of the stolen property including the car was US$77 400.
