A MAN who escaped prison 30 years ago has turned himself over to the cops!

Then 35-year-old Darko Desic, from Australia, allegedly used a hacksaw blade and bolt cutters to escape from the Grafton Intake and Transient Centre.

In a statement released on Wednesday, 15 September, New South Wales Police force indicated that he broke out of prison on 31 July 1992.

“The 64-year-old who escaped from prison, then aged 35, surrendered on 12 September. He was arrested and charged with escape from lawful custody,” the statement read.

It is further reported that Desic escaped because he did not want to be deported to his native Yugoslavia. At the time, the country was embroiled in a civil war.

According to 9News, before handing himself over to the cops, Desic was reportedly living on beaches in Sidney and doing odd jobs to make money.

He told cops that he opted to surrender after losing his job and, subsequently, his house due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

He appeared in court on Tuesday, and the next hearing is set for 28 September.
