AGNES Mathebula worked very hard to extend her two-roomed house so her five children could have an extra room.
Little did she know this would lead to her brutal killing.
The 40-year-old was beheaded with a panga, allegedly in a fight with her boyfriend over where the money for the renovation came from.
The incident happened on Thursday, 7 October, in Mpheni Village outside Makhado in Limpopo.
A relative witnessed the horrific murder.
She said Agnes was bathing when her boyfriend arrived, and they started fighting. She suddenly heard her screaming for help.
“When I arrived, she had blood on her left hand as she was shielding herself from the panga. I tried to intervene, but he overpowered me and started chopping her head off. It was like watching a horror movie.”
Another family member (53) said the boyfriend was jealous as he couldn’t support Agnes.
“His actions come from failure and bitterness. We have lost someone who was important. It’s painful to think of how she was killed.”
Agnes was working for the expanded public works programme and volunteering for the ANC.
ANC Makhado regional secretary Anderson Mudunungu said they were shocked
“We send our deepest condolences to Agnes’ family and friends.”
Police spokesman Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo confirmed that a case of murder was opened, and that the suspect is still at large.
