Two soldiers died in a horrific accident on Monday when the Mazda Premacy they were driving was hit by a Blue Star truck at 95km peg along Ngundu – Tanganda road at around 2pm.
Police sources who spoke to The Mirror said two soldiers Nehemiah Mabutho (29) of Combat Group, Masvingo ZNA and Tatenda Nyambi (29) of the same address were driving a Mazda Premacy which belonged to Silvester Guzha which they had borrowed to collect groceries for the camp canteen at Buffalo Range where they are stationed.
The duo had bought the groceries from Chiredzi town.
The Mirror is reliably informed that whilst they were driving, a Bluestar truck carrying 34 tonnes of sugar which was being driven by Anesu Mambo Marume was following behind them.
When the Mazda reached Buffalo Range turnoff to enter the camp, Mabutho turned to the right and at the same time the driver of the truck was overtaking and the truck then hit the Mazda. After the impact, the Mazda was dragged off the road to the right and rammed on a tree.
The two soldiers were taken to hospital with Mabutho taken to Premier hospital and Nyambi to Chiredzi General hospital. They were both pronounced dead upon admission and their bodies were taken to Chiredzi General hospital for post mortem.
