A 24-year-old Bulawayo woman was fired from her job and claims it was because she turned down her boss’ se_xual advances.
She also alleges that the club owner se_xually harassed her.
The woman who can’t be named for legal reasons, claimed in court documents that Tinashe Befura (28) made repeated unwanted se_xual advances towards her when he was still her boss at his club, Township Vibes, situated at Corner Fife Street and 3rd Avenue.
She claimed Befura fired her for not giving in to his persistent seduction.
In court papers, the woman further claimed besides Befura making unwanted advances towards her, he also caressed her butt0cks in front of a client.
Circumstances are that on an unknown date, but sometime in October this year the victim accompanied her sister who was holding a stokvel at Befura’s club.
Befura reportedly asked the victim if she wanted a job at his club and she agreed before he took her contact details.
It is alleged that Befura later called the victim, inviting her to come and start work on October 28. A few weeks later Befura allegedly proposed love to the victim and she turned down his love advances.
It is reported that on November 30 and at around 12PM when the victim was at work and while serving a client at the counter, Befura apparently in a bid to “acquiesce to his unwelcome se_xual advances” approached her and while standing next to her allegedly f0ndled her butt0cks before walking away.
Seeing that the victim had turned down his persistent se_xual advances, on December 1, Befura is alleged to have sent her a message instructing her to stop coming to work.
It is reported that in that message he boldly declared that it was because she was not entertaining him and had also turned down his inappropriate advances.
Befura reportedly gave the victim US$20 as her salary for that month she had worked.
The victim, who supposedly felt that she had been wrongfully fired because she had rejected her boss’ se_xual advances, went and filed an indecent assault complaint against him.
Befura, who was dragged to court facing an indecent assault charge as defined in Section 67 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act Chapter 9:23, was not asked to plead and was remanded out of custody to December 16.
