A Chiredzi woman could not think of any other way of escaping a rapist’s clutches who was about to ravage her and pulled hard on his private part.
Appearing before Chiredzi magistrate, Geraldine Mutsoto was Tawanda Chihlangu who had the tables turned on him by a Chilonga woman he had attacked only to find himself fighting to get away from his would be victim.
He also faces another charge of attempted murder arising from an incident he struck a fellow villager with a machete after the man chastised him over the attempted rape incident.
In an incident that left Chiredzi residents shell-shocked, the court heard that Chihlangu allegedly attacked and attempted to rape the woman while she was cutting thatch grass.
Prosecutor Gladymore Gwara claimed that June 29 this year at Section 3, Chilonga Chief Sengwe, Chihlangu followed a woman who was cutting grass for thatching huts in the fields. It is alleged that Chihlangu approached the woman and threatened to kill her with a machete if she resisted his orders. He then ordered her to sleep on the ground and attempted to rape her.
As Chihlangu was about to rape her, the woman grabbed his private parts, pulled and crushed them leading Chihlangu to release her. The woman then fled the scene. A day later, it is alleged that Chihlangu met with Joseph Gushani who chastised him for the attempted rape on the woman. It is alleged that Chihlangu then hit Gushani with a machete once in the head and ran away leaving Gushani socked in blood.
Gushani later reported the case to the police leading to Chihlangu’s arrest. Chihlangu was remanded in custody to next Friday. (18 July).
