LANCELOT Chibwana, a controversial Zim dancehall artiste who claims to be the illegitimate son of veteran sungura artiste, Hosiah Chipanga, has once again found himself in the eye of a storm.
On a number of occasions, Lancelot has openly clashed with Chipanga.
Two years ago, the two clashed after Lancelot tried to swindle Chipanga by attempting to change the ownership of the latter’s house into his.
The house is in Southlea Park, Harare.
When Chipanga discovered the attempted scam, he booted Lancelot out of the two-roomed house.
In the latest storm, Lancelot is trying to force Chipanga to undergo a deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) test to ascertain whether the veteran musician is his biological father.
“I am not after his money or inheritance. All I want is to have a DNA test that will settle the doubts that he has over me being his son. I simply need closure,” Chibwana said.
Lancelot said Chipanga has, since 2010, been deliberately avoiding him.
Chipanga is also not picking up his calls.
In an interview with The Sunday Mail Society from his rural home in Watsomba, Chipanga distanced himself from Lancelot.
“I don’t want to talk to Lancelot because he is not my son. I have nothing, absolutely nothing to do with him,” Chipanga said.
Chipanga swore that he will never undergo the DNA test that Lancelot is demanding.
“I am not going for the DNA tests because I am 100 percent sure that he is not my child.
“Of course, I once stayed with his mother, but he is not my son.
“He must mind his own business and leave me alone,’’ a fuming Chipanga said.
Lancelot was born to Memory Chibwana in Murehwa in 1988 and was raised by his maternal relatives after her mother died in 1994.
Lancelot said that before her death, her mother had introduced him to Chipanga as his biological son.
In 2005, Lancelot briefly stayed with Chipanga at his home in Dangamvura, Mutare.
When Chipanga moved to Harare, he took Lancelot to the capital city where he incorporated him into his band.
After working together for five years, the pair’s relationship turned sour after Lancelot tried to cheat Chipanga.
“Without informing my father, I had attempted to change the ownership of the house and put my name, but I failed.
“I was booted out of the house and he has since declared that he is not my biological father,’’ Lancelot said.
Meanwhile, Lancelot, who is also pursuing a musical career, is set to release a new eight track album titled “Zvakatanga Nemi”.
