Prophet T Freddy repeatedly thanked God while raping Rutendo Makuti: Shocking details emerge

Rape-accused Prophet T Freddy’s trial opened in the capital yesterday, with the complainant giving the court graphic details of what transpired.

The complainant, who is a radio presenter, gave the court a blow-by-blow account of how they met until the alleged crime was committed.

Freddy, who is the leader of Goodness and Mercy Ministries, is denying the charges saying the two were in love.

The prophet, who appeared before Harare regional magistrate Gloria Takundwa, claims the charges were fabricated to try and punish him when he decided it was time to end their relationship.

Freddy told the court that in July 2021, he indicated his intention to terminate their love affair, citing irreconcilable differences, which did not go down well with the complainant.

He said the complainant threatened to go public about their relationship and to make a scene at his church.

She also threatened him with the rape allegations and, with the assistance of her uncle, started making financial demands.

However, the complainant told the court Freddy assisted her during her husband’s illness and when he passed away.

She said the prophet helped her foot the bills for the funeral, around November 2020.

Three months later, she alleged, Freddy started proposing love to her but she refused.

She said she didn’t want to be involved in any romantic affair, before a year had elapsed, since the death of her husband.

The complainant narrated how one evening they went to her place in Mt Pleasant Heights and she left him in the car.

And, when she was using the bathroom, she claimed he came into the house.

“I was shocked to see him lying on the bed that I had shared with my late husband and he called my name, then said, ‘why do you make life difficult for yourself, the dead don’t know anything’ and went on to quote a bible verse that mentions the same.

“He then locked the bedroom door and forced himself on me.

“And, during the act, he would say ‘Thank you Lord’ numerous times till he finished raping me,” she said.

The complainant further narrated how the prophet allegedly raped her, for the second time, and threatened to kill her, if she ever disclosed the incident, to anyone. The State, represented by Sheila Mupindu, who was assisted by George Manokore, applied for the court to listen to an hour-long recording of Freddy talking to the complainant’s aunt discussing their relationship.

The court played half of the recording and postponed the matter to today due to time constraints.
