A man from Mzilikazi suburb in Bulawayo has been arrested for allegedly drugging and raping his 12-year-old daughter.
The 38-year-old man cannot be named so as to protect the identity of his daughter.
The daughter is said to have visited her father’s place of residence last Thursday – she stays with her mother in Nketa after the parents separated.
The daughter is said to have fallen asleep in her father’s bedroom after he gave her food.
He is said to have then injected her with an unknown drug, which made her lose consciousness.
She later woke up to find her father touching her thighs and felt pain in her se_xual organ.
She left for her mother’s house in Nketa suburb.
The pain intensified upon arriving home, where she dashed to the toilet and discovered that she was producing reddish fluid from her private parts.
She informed her mother and was given a pad as her mother assumed she was on her monthly me_nstrual period. But it did not get any better, forcing her to disclose the ordeal to her mother.
Her mother reported the rap_e incident to the police.
Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube confirmed the incident. He applauded the mother of the victim for coming forward to report the case so that the victim would access Post-Exposure Prophylaxis and counselling.
