Zanu PF activist Mafios accused of bashing CCC member Nyasha Zhambe to death dies in tragic accident


Barely four months after Citizen Coalition for Change (CCC) activist Nyasha Zhambe (48), was buried at his rural home in Gutu, one of the three Zanu PF murder suspects’ remains were interred at Masvingo Provincial Heroes Acre yesterday.

Buster Mafios who was a suspect in the murder of Zhambe which was reported at Mpandawana under case number RRB 459/62/19 died on February 4, 2022 in a freak accident that occurred in Chihambakwe area under Chief Makore along Roy-Mpandawana highway. The other suspects are Joseph Mudziwepasi and Eufrasia Chamwaita.

Ironically ED conferred a hero status to the suspected murderer.

Zanu PF thugs manning an illegal roadblock at Mpandawana allegedly assaulted Zhambe on October 14, 2021, accusing him of attending a meeting by CCC leader Nelson Chamisa at Mawungwa Business Centre. Sources close to the matter told The Mirror that anyone suspected of having attended the meeting was severely tortured.

Zhambe eventually succumbed to injuries on November 26, 2021 after he was assaulted with logs resulting in him being hospitalised at Parirenyatwa Hospital in Harare.

Police are yet to make an arrest.

However, Lynette Karenyi-Kore, during her address at Zhambe’s burial told mourners that the deceased’s avenging spirits will come back to haunt his perpetrators and their families.
