A BULAWAYO 33-year-old woman was raped and robbed in the presence of her children by three unidentified men who were travelling in a Toyota Fun Cargo.
The incident happened on Monday at about 5pm.
A source close to the incident said the victim was walking in the city centre when a motorist offered her and her children a lift.
The unsuspecting woman agreed and got into the car with her children. The driver drove towards Harare Road but before he reached it, he turned and drove at a high speed and headed to a bushy area which is near United College of Education (UCE).
The woman sensed danger and screamed but one of the unidentified men shoved a piece of cloth into her mouth and produced a pistol while threatening to shoot her, said the source.
The source said the vile attackers drove into the bush which is near UCE and parked their car and carried out the sick attack as her children watched the horror unfold before their eyes.
After that they took her three cellphones and US$120. They pushed her together with her children out of their car and drove off at high speed.
The woman reported the matter at Mzilikazi Police Station. She was referred to hospital for a medical examination.
Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube confirmed the incident and discouraged community members from boarding pirate taxis saying they would be risking their lives.
