ALMOST every suburb in Bulawayo has its own share of ghost stories, one that stands out is the Mahatshula North suburb house where tenants don’t last for more than a month as they claim to have seen figures and shadows that disappear in a blink of an eye and hear noises and footsteps that cannot be explained.
The house belongs to Susan Moyo known as Gogo Shlobo.
She denies that her house is haunted.
“Tenants are the ones that trouble me, some come with their beliefs and start smearing water around my compound while others would have failed to pay rent and due to this everyone thinks the house is haunted.
“I am a preacher and I go around preaching the word of God.
I can tell if someone has evil spirits or not especially if they are staying in my house,” she said.
The strange beings that are said to haunt the house are said to be so notorious that at times they move property out of the house.
One of the former tenants that requested anonymity told B-Metro that he once woke up to find his belongings outside the gate and to date he did not know how that happened.
At some point he also found himself sleeping on the floor while he knew that he had slept on the bed.
“Strange things used to happen to me there.
“I once found my belongings outside the gate and I was sleeping on the floor.
“That house is haunted and there are spiritual activities that happen in that house.
By the time I left the house the people I found renting before me also left with me because they had fallen victim to the spiritual forces there,” he said.
A neighbour to Gogo Shlobo who also requested anonymity said he heard funny sounds at night and tenants did not stay long at the house.
“Most of the people who rent the house do not stay for a long time because they find strange things happening around the house.
Sometimes they find themselves sleeping on the floor or their property outside,” she said.
Gogo Shlobo, however, said tenants leave after failing to pay rent, not because the house was haunted.
