A HARARE woman has hauled her neighbour to court over free-range “roadrunner” chickens, which are reportedly destroying her vegetables.
Sandra Dzvene also accused Darlington Chibundu of abusing her, hence the decision to approach the Harare Civil Court seeking a peace order against the latter.
She said Chibundu calls himself a headman of the area in which they stay.
“The other time he came at night and, without knocking, he entered my house telling me that I should respect him because he represents residents of our community.
“That is when I told him not to jut enter my house. His chickens eat and destroy my vegetables, he used to shut them in a cage but when he realised my garden was doing well, he let them loose.
“He always insults me and I have never insulted him because I am afraid of him,” said Dzvene.
Chipundu disputed the claims.
“Sandra treats me like a toddler, if she was a man, I would have fought her long back.
“She claims that my chickens feed on her vegetables when there are seven houses between our houses and I am not the only one who keeps chickens.
“On Tuesday, I had to go to the City of Harare to ask if she has the right to evict me from my house because she has a tendency of coming to my house and claiming my title deeds.
“She accused me of trying to rape her, which I never did.”
Magistrate Sharon Mashavire gave a reciprocal peace order for the two parties to maintain peace at all times, never to approach each other’s houses and for Chipundu to lock up his chickens.
