A HARARE businessman landed in the dock for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend’s friend until she suffered a miscarriage.
He accused her of calling his wife, in an attempt to destroy their marriage.
Edward Chenjerai Chigwida, 44, pleaded not guilty when he appeared before Harare magistrate, Munashe Chibanda.
Allegations are that on February 4, the complainant, Sandra Mazvita Appleton, went to the house of her friend, Sandra Byrne. She found Chigwida there, together with other friends, Ernest Musonza and one named Stuart.
It is alleged Musonza and Stuart went outside the house to check on the builders.
The court heard Appleton and Chigwida remained in the house.
Chigwida then accused Appleton of calling his wife and telling her falsehoods to try and destroy his marriage.
He demanded an apology but she refused.
Appleton denied ever calling Chigwida’s wife.
Chigwida allegedly slapped her before banging her head against the wall and kicked her in the stomach.
A report was filed with the police and a medical report showed she suffered a miscarriage from the assault.
Monalisa Magwenzi appeared for the State.
