A stepmother accused of murdering her stepdaughter appeared before a Western Commonage court magistrate facing a murder charge.
Nothando Mpofu (30) appeared before magistrate Jeconia Prince Ncube and was not asked to plead.
The magistrate remanded her in custody to 18 March 2022 and she was advised to apply for bail at the High Court.
Circumstances are that Nothando was staying with her stepchild in Nketa suburb. The child soiled herself and that did not go down well with her.
It is said she grabbed the child and assaulted her with a cooking stick and cable of a phone charger several times all over the body.
The minor suffered swollen butt0cks and hands. The minor died while she was rushing her to Mpilo Central Hospital.
The matter was reported to the police leading to her arrest.
Detectives quizzed her and she revealed that she got angry and assaulted the child.
The cooking stick and the cable of phone charger that she used were found at her home.
