IN a fit of jealousy, a Bulawayo man allegedly hacked his younger brother twice on the arm and knee with an axe after accusing him of seeing his wife.
After axing his younger brother Nkanyiso Ncube, Mthandazo (23) from Montgomery turned to his wife Getrude Moyo (18) and assaulted her with an electric cable several times on the head.
Allegations are that on 4 March 2022 and at around 9pm Mthandazo arrived home and found his wife talking with his younger brother Nkanyiso who was standing by the door.
In a fit of anger Mthandazo violently pushed his younger brother into the house and closed the door. While inside he became violent and started accusing his younger brother of having a relationship with his wife.
Mthandazo is alleged to have assaulted Nkanyiso with an electric cable once on the arms before he took an axe and allegedly struck him twice on the arm and once on the knee.
The violent Mthandazo later turned to his wife and hit her with an empty beer bottle on the head. As if that was not enough, he took an electric cable which he used to hit his wife with several times on the head.
Sensing danger the wife bolted out of the house and hid in a nearby maize field.
After sometime when Getrude decided to go back to the house, she found her husband putting her clothes in a pile and saw him burn them.
Her cell phone was also burnt in the process. The matter was reported to the police leading to Mthandazo’s arrest.
For the offence he was dragged before a court facing two counts of physical abuse and one of malicious damage to property. Mthandazo was not asked to plead and was remanded in custody to 22 March 2022.
