A 63-year-old woman who left a funeral wake in the middle of the night after family members accused her of witchcraft was allegedly found lying dead on the roadside.
The incident happened at Mhepo village under Chief Mataruse in Mberengwa, Midlands province.
An insider told B-Metro that Estry Mapope was attending her father-in-law’s funeral at his home when some family members started accusing each other of witchcraft.
The accusation intensified and fingers were pointed at Mapope.
Mapope, an insider said, left in a huff and vanished into the night.
Disturbed by that mourners followed her and stumbled upon her lying on the ground gasping for breath. She died as they tried to administer first aid.
Her body was ferried to Zvishavane District Hospital for post-mortem.
The matter was reported to the police.
Efforts to get a comment from Midlands police spokesperson Emmanuel Mahoko were fruitless.
