A 33-year-old man from Tshabalala suburb in Bulawayo has been arrested for allegedly assaulting and raping his landlady’s Grade Four daughter.
Two female juveniles were left in the care of Brighton Ngwenya and his wife when their mother went to Namibia to seek employment.
Allegations against Ngwenya are that during the period from January to February 2022, he would call the victim whenever his wife was not around and caress her thighs and privates and threaten to kill her if she told anyone.
The accused called the victim on March 3, 2022 around 4pm while she was cleaning the house and she refused.
He grabbed and dragged her to his room where he threw her on his bed and lifted her skirt.
He undressed her and rap_ed her.
The accused again threatened to kill her if she disclosed that to anyone.
As if that was not enough, a day after, the victim was playing outside when the accused called her saying he wanted to send her to buy him some cigarettes.
She went inside and when she got there, she found him nak_ed.
The victim tried to escape but he grabbed her.
He threw her on the bed and closed the door.
He then rap_ed her and when she went outside, she told her friend who went on to tell her aunt.
The aunt then reported the matter to the police and the victim was referred to hospital for medical examination.
Brighton appeared before magistrate Shepherd Mnjanja on May 10 2022 at Western Commonage court charged with indecent assault and rap_e and was remanded to 20 May 2022.
