A 37-YEAR-OLD man from Entumbane suburb in Bulawayo allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from roof trusses.
Kelvin Magenende who was employed as a laboratory technician at United Bulawayo Hospitals (UBH)’s lifeless body was found hanging on Tuesday afternoon by his nine-year-old son who was coming from school.
It is alleged that after discovering his father’s lifeless body dangling from the roof truss, the boy ran to a neighbour who advised him to go to the police and report the matter.
The boy reportedly proceeded to ZRP Entumbane where he made a report to police who attended the scene and took the body to UBH for postmortem.
Bulawayo police spokesperson, Inspector Abednico Ncube, confirmed the incident and urged people to share their problems rather than taking their lives.
“I confirm an investigation of a case of sudden death by hanging which occurred in Entumbane. We are urging members of the public to share their problems with others or to approach local counsellors, church leaders and other relevant personnel in order to avoid such cases because committing suicide is not a solution to any problem. Rather children are left alone and with no one to look after them,” he said.
Although it could not be readily established why Magenende decided to take his own life by hanging, sources said he could have had a misunderstanding with his wife.
Magenende reportedly left a suicide note on the scene in which he stated that he loved his wife and that she should keep well, their two children since he had failed to cope with the situation.
