A man who ambushed his own child before dragging her into a bushy area where he allegedly se_xually assaulted her has been arrested.
According to a family insider the 43-year-old man is said to have ambushed his four-year-old daughter near her school in Pumula suburb.
The source said: “The minor was sent home at around 10.30am for not having paid school fees. While she was walking along a footpath her father spotted her and emerged from the bush before grabbing her by her hand.”
The minor, the source said, screamed but her efforts were fruitless as her father muffled her with his hand.
“He quickly covered her mouth with his big hand before dragging her into a bushy area where he rap_ed her. After the attack he threatened to kill her if ever she revealed the ordeal to anyone,” said the source.
The minor later disclosed the ordeal to her mother who reported the rap_e incident to the police leading to the arrest of the alleged rap_ist.
Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube confirmed the incident.
Insp Ncube added: “As police we would like to advise parents to accompany their minor children to school and fetch them. We would also like to advise school going pupils to walk in groups and never to entertain any stranger that could try to befriend them.”
Insp Ncube mentioned that cases of rap_e involving members of the same family had become common and urged victims to quickly report such cases to the police rather than sweep them under the carpet to protect the attacker.
