SUNGURA star Alick Macheso’s lead dancer Selemani Mpochi popularly known as Majuice by his horde of fans was on Saturday night left bleeding after he was punched on the face by a fan who suspected him of trying to snatch his girlfriend.
The incident which left him bleeding and with injuries on his nose happened when his boss, Macheso was performing at Eyadini Park as part of his nationwide tour to spread the taste of his latest album Tinosvitswa Nashe (God will take us there).
According to a witness the incident happened after an unidentified female fan who apparently tried to show MaJuice who was mingling with the fans some love and appreciation ran after him and passionately hugged him.
Majuice’s passionate hug to the woman reportedly didn’t go down well with her alleged lover who charged towards the two who were still hugging each other and severely smacked Majuice in the face before disappearing from the scene.
“The guy who was not happy with the way Majuice had passionately hugged his woman charged towards him and punched him in the face. Soon after hitting him, the guy dragged his woman and disappeared from the scene,” said a witness.
There were also claims that he was attacked by a fellow dancer who was “reprimanding” him for getting cozy with fans while at work.
Majuice, however, didn’t entertain this reporter when he confronted him asking what had happened.
In an exclusive interview with our sister paper H-Metro, Majuice once said he was a “victim” of female fans.
“Female fans love me very much and I’m okay with it. I just know how to deal with them. I admit that I’m vulnerable to female fans but I don’t know the reasons. Maybe it’s because of good moves on stage. I think they have other assumptions,” said Majuice.
The ugly incident, however, didn’t spoil the show as the revered guitarist Macheso delivered a splendid performance much to the expectations of scores of music lovers who thronged Eyadini Park.
He delivered arguably a flawless act that delighted the audience that braved the chilly weather.
The show had all the ingredients of a thriller and from the start to finish it gained momentum with each performance and you could tell that there is nothing that can stop Macheso from enjoying the tag of King of Sungura and being called the best musician in the field of that genre.
The Sungura doyen proved that for him, music is God-given talent as he went an extra mile that the fans forgot all their problems as he belted out his hit tracks from his latest album and other memorable songs from his previous albums.
His coming on stage was met by loud cheers and whistles from the fans who could not wait to sample songs live from the man himself.
Fans also could be heard singing along showing that they really know and love his music. Macheso told fans that he respected them and was grateful for their support.
“I’m on a nationwide to tour to spread the taste of our new album. People here in Bulawayo love me and they have got my back. Ndimi vanhu vacho (You are the people who make me tick) I have to give back the love, you deserve it,” he said.
Macheso also took fans down memory lane as he played popular hits of late musicians including Tongai “Dhewa” Moyo, Simon “Chopper” Chimbetu, Oliver Mtukudzi and John Chibadura.
