POLICE in Hwedza, Mashonaland East province, have arrested a 45-year-old man who fatally attacked his former wife’s boyfriend after she refused to reconcile with him.

Edward Mhishe of Rambanepasi village, headman Chigwedere, Hwedza, is facing murder charges over the death of Partson Warikandwa (46).

Mhishe is also facing attempted murder charges after severely assaulting his ex-wife, Linda Garabha (32) who is currently admitted at Sadza Hospital.

Provincial police spokesperson Inspector Simon Chazovachi confirmed the incident and urged the public to respect the sanctity of life.

“I confirm the murder case that occurred in Chikomba district. Love does not kill and we urge the public to respect the sanctity of life. The public is advised to solve their misunderstandings amicably to avoid incidents like these,” Chazovachi said.

It is said sometime in April 2022, Mhishe, also of Rambanepasi village, and Garabha separated from their customary marriage.

Garabha left her matrimonial home to stay with her mother.

On July 17, Garabha, who is the complainant in the matter, went to Bodzo Village, in Chikomba, to see her now deceased boyfriend.

Mhishe followed his ex-wife and proceeded to the deceased’s uncle and informed him that he still loved his wife, and begged him to help them settle their marital differences.

The deceased’s uncle summoned all parties, but failed to reach a consensus.

Mhishe then proceeded to his former mother-in-law and begged her to convince her daughter to change her mind, but in vain.

At around 7pm, the same day, the suspect returned to the deceased’s uncle’s homestead and begged Garabha, who refused to entertain him.

After two hours, Garabha and the deceased headed home and retired to bed.

At around midnight, the suspect then went to Warikandwa’s homestead, forced entry into the house and attacked the duo with a hoe handle.

Warikandwa died on the spot, while Garabha was left unconscious.

Mhishe then headed to his former mother-in-law’s homestead and informed her of what he had done.

Garabha alerted the police at Sadza who attended the scene before taking Garabha to Sadza Hospital. Police arrested Mhishe as he tried to flee from the village.
