A 45-year-old man was allegedly struck to death with a wooden hoe handle by the former husband of his lover in Wedza on Tuesday.

Patson Warikandwa was attacked by Edward Mhishe (46) after he was caught in bed with Linda Garaba, (32).

Linda is Mhishe’s former wife.

Mhishe went on to attack Linda as well and left her unconscious.

She was taken to Wedza Hospital where she is receiving treatment.

The incident took place at Mushayi Village, under chief Svosve.

Mashonaland East provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Simon Chazovachii, confirmed the incident saying Edward has since been arrested.

“Police are investigating a murder case involving a man who attacked his ex-wife’s lover in Wedza,” said Insp Chazovachii.

“Circumstances were that the accused person separated with his wife sometime in April this year.

“On the day in question, the accused person tracked his ex-wife and found her in the company of her lover.

“He left them and informed his ex-wife’s mother that he wanted to resolve his issues with her daughter.

“He was referred to his ex-wife’s aunt and he decided to return to where his ex was with her lover.

“He tracked them until they got into the lover’s house to retire to bed.

“The accused person is reported to have forced the door open, armed with a wooden hoe handle, and attacked his ex-wife’s lover, who died on the spot.

“He went on to attack his ex-wife and left her unconscious,” said Insp Chazovachii.

In another case, Insp Chazovachii urged people to protect children from abuse.

His call follows the arrest of a 60-year-old man in Mudzi who is being accused of rap_ing his daughter’s child.

The girl is aged 10.

“Police are investigating a case of rap_e where a minor was raped by her grandfather.

“It was reported that the grandmother was aware of her husband’s intention.

“We are urging people to protect and monitor children as well as report cases of rap_e quickly so as to allow them to receive assistance and get perpetrators arrested,” said Insp Chazovachii.
