A man who was suicidal allegedly cut his life short by hanging himself from a pylon after he was involved in an accident.
The incident happened on the outskirts of Bulawayo at Reigate Farm.
A source close to the incident said Melvin Sipho Mkhwananzi (33) was travelling to Bulawayo from Nkayi with his lover named Encarnita Ncube and his friend Jabulani Dampo. When they were near Reigate Farm on the outskirts of Bulawayo they were involved in an accident.
After that, the source said, Melvin went to request assistance at the farm to tow his damaged car to Bulawayo. After about five minutes a motorist who was heading to Bulawayo slowed his car and shouted that there was a man who was hanging from a pylon at Reigate Farm. Upon checking Jabulani got shocked to find that it was his friend. A report was made at Queens Park Police Station.
CID scenes of crime attended the scene, Encarnita told detectives that Melvin had suicidal tendencies and he once attempted to commit suicide by hanging himself from the roof truss at his home. And he used to threaten to cut his life short as he said he struggled to come to terms with a terminal condition that he was diagnosed with, she added.
Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube confirmed the incident. He advised members of the public to engage counsellors or share their problems with trusted people than resorting to suicide.
