Police investigations have revealed that a suicidal man who allegedly cut his life short after he was involved in an accident was reportedly murdered.
Melvin Sipho Mkhwanzi (33) was involved in an accident a few metres from Reigate Farm on the outskirts of Bulawayo while he was travelling to Bulawayo together with his lover named Encarnita Ncube and his friend Jabulani Dampo.
It is said a few moments later Melvin dashed to Reigate Farm to request for assistance to tow his damaged car to Bulawayo. While Dampo and Ncube were waiting for Melvin seated in the car, a motorist slowed his car and told them that there was a man who was hanging from a pylon in the farm.
Dampo rushed to the scene and was shocked to find that it was his friend. He reported the matter to the police. Melvin’s remains were taken for a postmortem and results revealed that he did not commit suicide but had died due to ‘unusual hanging’ and post-traumatic disorder.
Police investigations also concurred with postmortem results revealing that foul play was suspected and pre-existing immuno clinical suppression.
An inquest by a magistrate revealed that foul play was suspected and this was notably so after the witnesses offered contradictory testimonies and postmortem results revealed that he died due to unusual hanging.
This comes as Ncube told investigators that her lover was suicidal as he made several attempts to commit suicide. His suicidal tendencies reportedly grew as he struggled to come to terms with a terminal condition he was recently diagnosed with.
