A 19-year-old maid from Esigodini was caught in a Zupco bus on her way to Harare after stealing US$320 and clothes from her employer.
Presiding over the case, Bulawayo magistrate Busani Sibanda sentenced Lynnette Mashingaidze to four months imprisonment which were wholly suspended on condition that she does not commit a similar offence in the next five years.
Allegations against the perpetrator are that on 28 July at around 10pm at ZRP Donnington Police Camp, Owen Mukandi searched for his money which he was keeping in his bedroom and could not find it.
He then decided to search for it the following day since he thought that he had misplaced it. When he could not find it, he told Mashingaidze but she did not respond.
Mukandi then went out of town leaving Mashingaidze with the children at home.
He then returned on 30 July at 9am and was told that Mashingaidze left the previous night.
Mukandi then tracked Mashingaidze using her NetOne line.
On 1 August at around 9.30am Mashingaidze was arrested in a Zupco bus along Bulawayo-Harare Road on her way to Harare.
She was brought to ZRP Donnington, and her bags were searched.
Mukandi discovered that she had also stolen children’s clothes.
The property stolen was US$320 and children’s clothes.
The clothes and US$260 were recovered.
