AN ODZI man died after he was trapped in a mineshaft he was working in last week on Saturday.
It is alleged that Juebester Chiruka (22) and his workmates were working at Kupfuma Syndicate and were putting timber on the walls of their shaft to stop it from collapsing when the incident happened.
Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Nobert Muzondo confirmed the incident and said Chiruka and his colleague, Advance Bonde went into the 10-metre deep shaft using a rope and were trapped inside.
“After realising that their colleagues had been trapped inside, Shadreck Chiwandire and others went into the mineshaft and managed to rescue Bonde. They, however, failed to rescue Chiruka who was already dead,” said Inspector Muzondo.
