A NEWLY born baby has been found dumped near a sewage manhole in Makokoba suburb in Bulawayo.
The baby was found by a group of school children along 11th Street in the suburb.
Circumstances are that on 20 August 2022 and at around 6.30pm, children on their way from school were shocked when they found a newly born baby dumped beside a sewage manhole.
The school children alerted elders who then reported the matter to the police.
Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube confirmed the incident and urged the public to desist from baby dumping.
“We are investigating a case of unlawful termination of pre_gnancy. The upsurge of cases of baby dumping, birth concealment, termination of pre_gnancy, and other cases involving newborns are disturbing of late. We urge women to try as much as possible to avoid unwanted pregnancies.
“However, if one finds herself in trouble as a result of pre_gnancy or child birth, they must seek assistance or advice from fellow family members, church or community leaders or the police victim friendly unit,” said Inspector Ncube.
