TWO security guards appeared in court for stealing mahewu worth US$5,50 from Honeypot in Bulawayo. Presiding over the case, Bulawayo magistrate Busani Sibanda sentenced the duo, Approval Mapfumo (20) and Nqobizitha Dube (21) to six months imprisonment.
Three months were suspended on condition that they pay a fine of $20 000 each. The remaining three months were suspended on the condition that they do not commit a similar crime in the next five years.
When asked why they stole mahewu brew, a traditional energy drink, they said they were planning to sell it. The court heard that on 23 August 2022 at Honeypot company at around 3am, the duo took 15 x 700ml of Honeypot mahewu. The value of the property stolen was US$5,50 and everything was recovered.
