ZDF Queens title aspirations have been dealt a huge blow after goal-shooter Mercy Mukwadi dumped them to pursue her netball career in United Kingdom.
Mukwadi played an important role in the Gems’ qualification for the 2019 Netball World Cup despite not being included in the final squad that did duty in Liverpool. She was part of the eight players who went to the World Cup under the tag ‘developmental project’ and she managed to establish contacts
Currently, Mukwadi is one of the leading scorers in the Rainbow Netball Amateur League and her departure will come as a huge dent to ZDF, who are gunning for this year’s championship.
In her last game, Mukwadi was awarded with the golden hand award after netting 47 scores in their 52-40 victory over Beta Queens at Harare Metropolitan Police on Wednesday.
Mukwadi confirmed her departure to H-Metro.
“Opportunity comes once. Netball has opened doors for me and I really want to use this opportunity to pursue my netball career and other things,” she said.
She however could not confirm nor deny if she already has a club.
“I need to know about the money first.”
Mukwadi joined ZDF during the start of the 2019 season after ditching her former club Harare City Queens under unclear circumstances.
During her time at Harare City, they managed to finish second in the Netball Super league for two years in a row.
Mukwadi also participated at the 21 and under Youth World Cup that was held in Botswana in 2017 where Zimbabwe finished ninth.
“I have also realised that you need to be patient enough because God’s time is always the best.”
“All I can say to my former teammates at ZDF is that, I love you all and we are still in the top three no matter what. No pain no gain continue to work hard.”
