With the looming explosive match with Algeria during the international break, all eyes were on Zimbabwe players playing abroad last weekend. Most of the players did shine, while some had a fair game giving Zimbabwe fans something to smile. There are still several players struggling to push for places in the starting lineups for their teams, but for those who made it, this is how they fared.
Tino Kadewere, who plays for Ligue 1 side Lyon, was in the first-eleven as they battled Lille. His start is his fourth consecutive in the league games. The striker played the entire game for the first time as they were held to a 1-1 draw. Lille is having a good season so far, domestically and internationally. Recently they upset all odds with Betway soccer betting to beat Italian giants AC Milan in the Champions League.
As for Knowledge Musona, he started for his team KAS Eupen as they battled with the mighty Genk. It was unfortunate he was on the losing end after being thrashed 0-4 by Genk. AS Eupen had a number of their starting eleven out with injuries, meaning Genk played a somewhat weakened side.
Marshall Munetsi, who plays for Reims, started in midfield as they entertained strugglers Strasbourg in the French Ligue 1. Munetsi ended on the winning side as his side left with all three points, winning 2-1 on the day.
Nyasha Mushweki is starting to show what he is truly made of after helping his team Zheijiang Greentown by scoring twice, although they lost to Meizhou Hakka in the Chinese League One. It will be good news for Zimbabwe, as they have struggled in front of goal for some time.
On the same weekend, Marvelous Nakamba started on the bench as his side Aston Villa went down 3-4 to Southampton at Villa Park. Nakamba has been brilliant when called upon for his team in the premier league. Although he has been starting on the bench most of the time, he will need to work harder to regain a starting 11. Given how Villa are performing in the EPL, especially against top sides, Nakamba has a lot to do to win his coach’s trust.
Teenage Adebe was also an unused sub for Yeni Matalyaspor when they were taking on Besiktas. They lost 0-1 to the Turkish giants on the day. The Turkish league is one of the many leagues you can bet on with Betway.
Not far away from home, Bruce Kangwa and Prince Dube played for Tanzanian moneybags Azam FC in a match that ended in a 1-all draw against JKT Tanzania in the Tanzanian Premier League.
Tendayi Darikwa, who plays at right-back for Nottingham Forest, is still out with an injury after picking an injury. It is a blow to Zimbabwe, for they will not have one of their most experienced players for the upcoming double-header with Algeria.
The Zimbabwe national team will be looking to upset the reigning African champions Algeria when they meet in the rescheduled 2022 AFCON qualifiers set for Cameroon. Algeria boasts some of the continent’s best players, including Manchester City winger Riyad Mahrez. Betway brings all qualifying matches for fans to bet.
