The UEFA Champions League will continue in February after the Round of 16 draws held on 14th December 2020. After a grueling group stage campaign a number of bigwigs fell off, some to the Europa League and others eliminated from Europe completely.
Italian giants Internazionale and French side Olympique Marseille finished bottom of their respective groups while Manchester United could only finish third and will be playing in the Europa League.
Some very interesting ties are set to grace the screens after the draws in mid December. Top of the order will definitely be the Barcelona versus PSG clash while the Leipzig versus Liverpool game also promises fireworks.
Bayern Munich’s defence will see them take on Italian side Lazio in the two-legged affair as former winners FC Porto and Juventus face off, seeking to replicate past glory in this competition.
Real Madrid, the record winners of this competition have been a bit off color in recent Champions League matches. Last season they were eliminated at the quarter finals stage by Manchester City and this season they had very shaky moments, including a home loss to a much changed Shakhtar Donetsk side hit by Covid-19.
They will face off with Italian side Atalanta, who do not have a very rich history in the Champions league but at all times hold a big threat, especially with their goal scoring prowess.
Among the clubs heavily tipped to win this season’s title are Bayern Munich, (the best ranked team in Europe at the moment) and Liverpool, who are ranked 10th, while Atletico Madrid (ranked 5th in UEFA) and Manchester City remain among the favorites but with slightly lower margins. Atletico and City are both hoping to win the title for the first time.
PSG were impressive in last season’s competition and after getting to the final for the first time ever, and showing some flashes of brilliance this season, they are also tipped to challenge. The French giants have not had the best of season so far but made a bold move in the appointment of Mauricio Pochettino who guided Tottenham Hotspur to the final two seasons ago. PSG are ranked seventh in Europe and face off with second placed Barcelona, who have five Champions League titles.
On the Bet365 outright markets, Manchester City and Bayern Munich are the heaviest favorites in the first legs of their Round of 16 ties at 1.55, while Lazio, at 5.25 are the least favored to win in the opening legs and being the second lowest ranked among the 16 explains it all.
