One person died on the spot while three others are feared dead when two haulage trucks collided at Mazowe Bridge along the Harare – Bindura highway.
The accident took place at around 5pm yesterday and claimed one life of a haulage driver and left two other drivers hospitalised.
According to eyewitnesses, the trucks rammed into each other after one of the trucks burst its front tyre, thereby losing control of the vehicle.
A Nissan truck travelling from Bindura was also caught up in the accident, injuring the driver, who has since been hospitalised.
The truck which was travelling towards Bindura carrying bulk fertilisers fell into the river, reportedly claiming the life of the driver.
There are also fears that three other people are trapped underneath.
At the scene of the accident, police details were controlling traffic while Firebrigade personnel from Harare were trying to verify the existence of human being under the heavily damaged truck.
The haulage truck heading towards Harare had two black granite stones which were thrown out of the vehicle, with one partially blocking the highway.
