Controversial former Dynamos and Warriors legend, Moses 'Bambo' Chunga shocked Chiredzi FC officials and supporters when he allegedly collected more than US$4,000 realised at the gates after Chiredzi FC's home game against Dynamos and disappeared with it.
The game was played at Chishamiso Stadium recently. Chunga confirmed taking the money and said that he took the money because the executive was not doing its job of sourcing funds for the team. He urged this reporter not to quote him.
"I took the money in front of police officers and the club's vice chairman Sithole and if they (executive) think it's a crime, tell them to come and see me. But let this be between you and me. Don't write about this," said Chunga while expecting a journalist to keep a 'secret'.
Bambo allegedly took the money which was supposed to be topped by the executive so that they would pay US$200 each to the 35 players who have been playing without salaries since the beginning of the season.
It is alleged that after taking the money, Chunga reportedly tasked Chiredzi FC captain Fidelis Mangezi and brighton Pamhira to issue US$50 to all the 35 players which totalled to US$1750 and the rest put to his personal use.
Muchatukwa confirmed that Chunga collected gate takings from the Dembare match and added that the executive was launching an investigation.
"I can confirm that Chunga collected the money Chiredzi FC realised during the Dynamos match. The executive has been undertaking investigations and we now have a position that the matter will be handled by the police. No one must temper with funds of a team. The constitution says all the funds realised must be banked and accounted for," said Muchatukwa.
Sources say the fallout between Chunga and the executive deepened when the outspoken coach dumped their traditional transport, a 24-seater Kombi in preference of a bigger ZUPCO bus which was too expensive for the struggling team. Chunga was also blamed for his unavailability during most of the team's training sessions leaving assistant coaches Murinye and Zishiri to do all preparatory work.
In an interview, Bambo said he gave a go ahead to the executive to do the administrative work of the team while he did the coaching.
"The issue of who owns the team is between you and me. However, what I can tell you for now is that those guys (the executive) got a go ahead from us to do the administrative work while I coach the team," he said.
After the Dynamos defeat, Chunga allegedly slapped a supporter at Chishamiso Stadium for allegedly challenging him to produce better results.
