There was commotion near the Munhumutapa offices today after a woman confronted President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s motorcade. The woman stood in front of the motorcade, blocking its path and stopping the President from leaving.

According to Energy Mutodi, the Deputy Information Minister, the woman who is suspected to be mentally unstable was saved by President Emmerson Mnangagwa himself, who ordered his security not to harm the woman. Writing on social media site Twitter Mutodi said,

“His Excellency President ED Mnangagwa today ordered his security team not to harm or chase away a suspected mentally ill woman who stood in front of his motorcade as he was preparing to leave for a Kadoma rally; delaying the motorcade for some minutes.”

The woman later left on her own after causing the scene.

Some social media users have reacted with scepticism to the whole scene arguing that it was engineered by Mutodi and other avowed supporters of the President. They argue that given the way the authorities always react in a heavy-handed manner, it is highly unlikely that the woman would remain unscathed after putting herself in such a perilous position.

They also question how the woman who is supposedly mentally unstable was allowed to leave the scene without receiving any help of any sort or without being detained to verify her claims.
