AN OFFICER with the Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) died Sunday afternoon while 24 of his colleagues were injured when the army truck they were travelling in was involved in an accident while on way to Harare from Kariba.
According to Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Permanent Secretary Mr. Nick Mangwana, the army truck was on duty managing the national lockdown, and it was heading to Harare.
Mangwana said the injured were rushed to Kariba District Hospital where they are being attended to.
“An army truck involved in managing the #lockdownzim was involved in a fatal crush about 49km from Kariba on its way to Harare.
“One soldier lost his life while 24 others were injured. The injured were rushed to Kariba District Hospital. Condolences to the family of the deceased,” Mangwana said.
Zimbabwe today entered the second week of a two-week lockdown extension announced by President Emmerson Mnangagwa last Sunday, with 31 cases of coronavirus deaths having been recorded to date.
The cases include four deaths and two recoveries, according to the Ministry of Health and Child Care daily updates.
