The ruling ZANU PF party has threatened to use its parliamentary majority to crush the United States of America and Britain’s ‘surrogates and sycophants’ if they tighten the sanctions they imposed on Zimbabwe.
The ruling party has consistently accused the MDC Alliance (MDC-A) of ‘begging’ for the ruinous sanctions against Zimbabwe to make the economy ‘scream’ so that citizens revolt against the government.
Addressing reporters during the party’s weekly press briefing in Harare on Wednesday, ZANU PF spokesperson Patrick Chinamasa said the United States and Britain can go hang as Zimbabwe is now tired of being their punch-bag. He said:
… the British and our detractors are baselessly trying to maintain the policy of hostility to our people and leadership. That should stop forthwith.
We applaud the Zimbabwean Parliament for standing firm in dismissing the British machinations.
Zimbabwe is not a second-class nation to the British and whoever looks at us as though we are, must go hang.
Equally, the threats to tighten sanctions on us at a time when our government through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is spearheading His Excellency’s re-engagement and engagement strategy is regrettable.
If the British and Americans continue along that regrettable path, we will, through our legislature, mobilise tough measures on their surrogates and sycophants here.
Our Parliament is ready and our people are ready. They are tired of being punchbags of these Uncle Tom politics.
