President Emmerson Mnangagwa is this week commissioning his party youths’ ED 2023 Regalia project, a direct move which would sink his deputy, Constantino Chiwenga’s Presidential ambitions.
Zanu PF youth league last week launched an anti-Chiwenga campaign through a fashion shop that sells party regalia endorsing Mnangagwa’s 2023 Presidential candidature.
Mnangagwa, according to the state media is this week commissioning the ED 2023 regalia shop.
Chiwenga runs a Zanu PF faction which has its strong support base in the military and a section of war veterans.
Chiwenga helped Mnangagwa to assume power after the military ousted former president Robert Mugabe in a coup in November 2017.
His faction wanted Mnangagwa to rule for one term and hand over power to the former army commander.
According to this faction, Mnangagwa was supposed to step-down at the end of his current term and allow Chiwenga to be the Party’s 2023 Presidential candidate.
