Chitungwiza - Amos Mahendere, a famed Gospel musician with the Mahendere Brothers who is also a special artist with Prophet Emmanuel Makandiwa's church was arrested at around 5pm Sunday after allegedly hitting a commuter omnibus driver with the butt of a pistol which led to an incessant gushing off blood.

The incident uccured at around 11 Sunday morning when a misunderstanding erupted between the conductor Moses Chiyangwa and other members of Prophet Emmanuel Makandiwa's United Family International Church.

The altercation was caused by the high volume of music in the vehicle and after the young commuters had complained it was reduced but they demanded to alight. As they disembarked from the vehicle, they set upon the conductor Moses Chiyangwa and started beating him up. The driver Ignatious Nyika(30) tried to stop the UFI Church members from assaulting the conductor. The music star suddenly appeared, took out a pistol and the kombi driver momentarily stood transfixed.

He stood there as the heavily built and greatly muscled Amos Mahendere struck him with the butt of his gun on the face three times. Blood started oozing out soiling the driver's T-shirt.

Asked why he did this, Mahendere stated that he was "afraid of other commuter omnibus conductors and drivers might mob and beat" them up. He is now also a member of UFI having left his original church, Apostolic Faith Mission (AFM). A report was made at Chitungwiza Police Station and Mahendere was called in for questioning.

It is not known whether the gun was registered or not and according to police even if registered, it is not allowed to misuse it this way. Nyika was attended to at Chitungwiza General Hospital. Attempts to obtain acomment from Prophet Makandiwa's church were fruitless as the phone kept ringing without being answered at the time of writing.
