24-year-old Pritchard Zimondi who stands accused of stabbing his girlfriend 15 times to death has been moved from his Chitungwiza residence to a SAFER place.
This follows growing fears over his life. Pritchard's lawyer, Norman Mugiya made the application at the High Court on Tuesday last week and was granted permission on Wednesday. Pritchard had his bail conditions relaxed from reporting everyday to once a week to the police station nearer to his new place of residence (location supplied).
Pritchard was granted bail at the High Court last month after spending close to two months in remand prison. Mugiya said he made the application amid growing fears over Pritchard's life. He added that the application was also meant to make Pritchard pursue studies without fear.
"He is now staying with his close relative in a new location (name supplied) following fears over his life. The girl's relatives knew of his Chitungwiza residence and we felt it was not safe for him to continue residing there hence we approached the High Court. The new place has better security for him. He is going to school and there is need for him to study without fear," he said.
Allegations against Pritchard Zimondi are that he went to his girlfriend, who is now late, Monalisa Chinomona's (19) place of residence, House No. 7621 Unit K, Chitungwiza where he sneaked into the house unnoticed and allegedly found Monalisa fast asleep in her bedroom. Further allegations are that Pritchard went into the kitchen where he fetched a kitchen knife.
It is State's case that he then stabbed his 19-year-old girlfriend 15 TIMES on her chest. The court heard that Pritchard left the knife stuck in Monalisa's left breast before fleeing the place. Further allegations were that he was caught in Harare city centre while trying to flee from the capital for Gweru in a bid to evade arrest.
It was also said that he stabbed Monalisa following a heated misunderstanding with her on the day in question. hmetro
