A suspected l0ve triangle turned horribly wrong when a man from a village in Fort Rixon in Matabeleland South province was left with a deep cut on his face after he was allegedly axed in a fight over a womɑn.
Reward Mukombwe appeared before Bulawayo regional magistrate Joseph Mabeza facing a charge of attempted murder. He pleaded not guilty to the charge and was remanded in custody to 12 July.
Allegations against Mukombwe are that on 24 June and at around 9pm at Riverside Business Centre in Fort Rixon, he found his girlfriǝnd only identified as Ayanda with Thembinkosi Ncube.
He then approached Ncube and asked him what he was doing with his girlfriǝnd.
In response Ncube told him that Ayanda was also his girlfriǝnd and this led to a misunderstanding between the two parties.
While exchanging harsh words Mukombwe reportedly produced a small axe from his jacket and used it to strike Ncube once on the face.
After committing the offence he fled from the scene.
The matter was reported to the police and Ncube was taken to United Bulawayo Hospitals (UBH) for medical examination and investigations led to the arrest of Mukombwe.
A medical report was produced in court as evidence.
