HARARE – Contemporary musician Kudakwashe Gombarume, known to his fans as Chillmaster, is expected to appear in court today to answer to culpable homicide charges following a tragic road accident earlier this month that claimed the life of a pedestrian.
The accident occurred along the New Chitungwiza Road and resulted in the death of 50-year-old Custon Charambira, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
Harare provincial police spokesperson Inspector Luckmore Chakanza confirmed that Chillmaster, 24, is facing culpable homicide charges. “A local musician involved in a road traffic accident where a pedestrian died is expected to appear in court tomorrow (today),” said Insp Chakanza.
Custon Charambira has since been laid to rest in his rural home in Zaka, Masvingo Province.
In the immediate aftermath of the accident, Chillmaster took to his social media platforms to express his profound sorrow and extend his condolences to the family of the deceased. He also requested privacy as he navigates the legal proceedings.
“It is with profound sorrow and a heavy heart that I address you today,” Chillmaster wrote. “Earlier today, I was involved in a devastating car accident that resulted in the loss of a precious life. Words cannot express the depth of my grief, remorse, and sympathy for the individual who passed away, their family, and loved ones.”
The musician emphasised his commitment to cooperating fully with the authorities in the investigation of the tragic incident. “I am fully cooperating with authorities on this tragedy, and I will continue to do so transparently,” he stated. “Right now, my focus is on respecting the privacy of the grieving family and supporting them in any way possible during this unimaginably difficult time.”
Chillmaster acknowledged the immense pain caused by the accident and accepted full responsibility for his actions. “There is no justification for the pain this has caused,” he wrote. “I take full responsibility for my actions and will carry the weight of this loss with me for the rest of my life.”
He also expressed his desire for forgiveness, while acknowledging that it may not be forthcoming. “I ask for forgiveness, though I understand it may never come, and I vow to honor the memory of the life lost through reflection, accountability, and actions that align with the gravity of this moment,” he said.
Out of respect for the Charambira family and the ongoing legal process, Chillmaster stated that he would refrain from making further public comments on the matter. “Out of respect for the family and the ongoing legal process, I will not be commenting further publicly,” he said. “I humbly ask for privacy for all affected as we navigate this tragedy.”
Addressing his fans and supporters, Chillmaster expressed his gratitude for their understanding during this difficult time. “To my fans and supporters, thank you for your understanding as I step back to reflect, grieve, and focus on doing what is right,” he said. “Please hold the victim and their loved ones in your hearts. With deepest humility.”
